Animal Farm: Post-Reading Questions

Published by denisedare under Animal Farm

You made it to your last blog post! Please answer these questions–the same that you answered before you read the text–and reflect on how your ideas have changed or remained the same. Please answer again with complete sentences, then follow up by reviewing your pre-reading answers and explaining any differences you notice about your ideas. Add any final thoughts or insights you would like to share. Finally, respond to at least one other person’s answers and reflection. :)

You did it! I’m incredibly proud of all of you–and although summer is a such a happy and relaxing time, I have to admit that I will definitely be missing my sixth period students! :) Thank you for your effort, your thoughtfulness, and your positive energy this year!

1. What do you think would happen if your class “overthrew” your teacher? Who would be in charge? Do you think the class would be better or worse? Why?

2. Who should decide who is in charge? How should this be done?

3. Animals are personified throughout this novel. What are your thoughts on the use of such a device?Negative? Positive? Indifferent? Why?

4. What do you know about Soviet Communism? Communism in general? Where did you get your information?

5. What are your feelings towards animals? How do you feel about eating meat? How do you feel about hunting? Should animals be used for our entertainment? How do you feel about farm animals? Why?

6. Share any final reflections and insights about Animal Farm.

AF: Ch. 9 Qs

Published by denisedare under Animal Farm

Hi everyone,

Please do your best to answer the following questions about Animal Farm. Remember to use complete, thoughtful sentences when responding. Once you have formed your own responses, please then post a separate response to someone else’s ideas. Remember, the purpose of this assignment is not only to show me what you have learned, but to promote discussion and responses among yourselves. You can learn more than you know from one another.

 Peace,

 Mrs. Dare

Chapter 9:

1. Why does the author say Squealer talked of a “readjustment” to their food rations and never a “reduction”?

2. Explain whether you agree that the animals’ lives have more dignity now than under Mr. Jones.

3. Why does the raven return? What is the value to the novel in what the  raven tells the animals? (What is the purpose of Orwell writing about the discussion of Sugarcandy Mountain?)

4. How did you feel when Boxer talked about his plans for retirement? What do you think about what happened to Boxer?

5. Why does Napoleon choose to appear in front of all the animals on the Sunday after Boxer’s death? What does he hope to accomplish?

6. Make a one sentence prediction about the conclusion of the novel (only one more chapter to go…you can make it!). :)

Animal Farm: Pre-reading Questions

Published by denisedare under Animal Farm

Hello my English II students! :)

We are going to use this blog as a way of communicating and sharing ideas–so that everyone is able to read each others’ words. In this first assignment, I would like you to answer the following pre-reading questions with complete sentences. Be honest and thoughtful in your responses.

Once you have posted your answers to these pre-reading questions, you also need to post a response to at least one other student’s answers. In your response to another student, it is important to be respectful; you may want to ask a question or simply comment on something he or she wrote about in their answers.

Thank you for doing your best with this activity!

:) Mrs. Dare
